Custom Cabinet Surround for Heat n Glo Fireplace

Badgerland Fireplace built a custom cabinet surround to fit around the existing Heat n Glow Slimline unit SL-7 fireplace with a black arcadia front. Our design experts custom built Kenwood in maple with a stain to coordinate with the existing pine walls.

The stone used inside surround is Erthcoverings Silver Fox 3D. The homeowners wanted to mount a TV above the fireplace so our team made sure the cables could run through the wall and out the side of the surround.

The clean lines of this Heat & Glo 6000 Modern direct vent gas fireplace are framed by a cream-hued, brick stone veneer from Boulder Creek Stone (“Estate Brick”). With an output of 19,000 to 28,000 BTUs, this fireplace can easily heat a medium-sized room of 700 to 1,200 sq. ft.

It’s available with a 36” or 42” viewing area, a variety of colored, crushed glass and your choice of black or light gray for the front door and black, graphite or bronze for the Folio front.

Heat & Glo Tiara II Gas Stove with Boulder Creek Stone Veneer at our Waukesha showroom

At first glance, you’d swear it’s a cast iron wood stove. Well, that’s close. It’s actually a cast iron direct vent gas stove. We set up this stove in our showroom specifically for those looking to replace a gas stove, but not knowing what to do with the space in their home where the wood stove sits.

The Tiara II brings the classic style of a cast iron wood stove into the 21st century. Heat & Glo’s direct vent gas heater technology expels 100% of the exhaust and fumes from your home while providing optimal heat (26,000 to 37,000 BTUs)-- enough to heat a 1,000 to 1,700 sq. feet room. If you’ve ever had to split and haul logs to a woodstove, then clean out ashes, you’re going to love making the switch to a gas stove.

The Tiara stove includes a realistic set of logs and a mesh safety barrier screen to protect against accidental contact with the glass front of the stove, which gets dangerously hot. The Tiara comes in three colors: Matte Black, Cocoa Brown or Espresso. If the Tiara II is too much for your space, Heat & Glo has two smaller models—the Tiara I and the Tiara Petite.

As for the gorgeous wall in the background, it’s a natural stone veneer from Boulder Creek Stone. This is their "Fond du Lac" Weather Edge veneer with Dutch Tan hearth stones. The light colored grout (“Linen”) blends well with the pastel variations in the veneer.

Our showroom installations change on a regular basis, but we usually try to keep one or two gas wood stoves like this on display. Stop by and have a look.

Fireplace Installation in Hartland

Here’s a great example of how a fireplace can be installed where there was no fireplace of any kind. As you can see from the Before and After photos, adding a fireplace to a room makes quite a statement.

For this project, our Waukesha fireplace installers did a floor to ceiling framing of a Heat & Glo SL9X on a living room wall, then finished it with a gorgeous stone veneer from Dutch Quality (“Sienna Drystack”). The sides of the fireplace were also wrapped with stone veneer. Taupe hearthstones and a custom oak mantel (our “Conover” model) finish off this beautiful installation. Our fireplace installers also handled installing a power outlet behind the flat screen TV and mounting the TV.

Besides looking great and providing cost-effective zone heating, a gas fireplace is one of the best investments you can make in your home. According to Marshal & Swift’s Appraiser’s Handbook, installing a quality gas fireplace has a 91% return on investment.

If you’re ready to start planning your fireplace, start with a visit to our Waukesha showroom. With over 20 working fireplaces on display, it’s a great place to get ideas and inspiration for your fireplace.

Heat & Glo Northstar Wood Fireplace with Boulder Creek Stone Surround

This fireplace installation in our Waukesha showroom features a Heat & Glo Northstar wood fireplace and a gorgeous natural stone veneer from Boulder Creek Stone (Southeast Ledgestone in Misty Gray with a light gray mortar.

The Northstar fireplace is an extremely efficient fireplace rated at 74,900 BTUs—enough to heat a 1,000 to 2,600 square feet space. It can hold logs as long as two feet in length and provides up to 10 hours of burn time. It’s EPA-certified, too, with exceptionally low emission levels of just 3.25 grams per hour.

If you’re wondering about the great looking barn beam mantel, it’s actually not a barn beam. It’s a concrete mantel by MagraHearth. They mold these with actual barn beams and the result is virtually impossible to distinguish between the real thing. Stop by our Waukesha showroom and see for yourself.

Before and After Fireplace Makeover in Fox Point

These are before and after photos of a total fireplace remodel Badgerland Fireplace did at a home in Fox Point. The homeowners were looking for a more contemporary style—one that would work with the installation of a new flat screen TV.

These homeowners opted to replace their rather industrial looking, circa 1973 fireplace with a Heatilator Icon 80 wood burning fireplace with an attractive “Contour” front. The oak woodwork and brick surround was removed and replaced with a gorgeous stone veneer from Pro-Line (“Stillwater” ledgestone with “Linen” mortar and natural color hearthstones.)  To complete the new look, a more contemporary style oak mantle with just enough room to mount a center channel speaker was added.

Whether you’re considering a fireplace makeover, or an installation of a fireplace where there’s nothing but drywall, Badgerland Fireplace can make it happen. We carry the full line of Heatilator and Heat & Glo fireplaces and fireplace inserts, as well as an impressive selection of natural and cultured stone veneer products from the top manufacturers. From fireplace design to installation, we do it all—with no third party contractors involved.

Menomonee Falls Fireplace Makeover

Here’s a great example of how an old brick fireplace surround can get a fresh new look just by installing stone veneer over the existing brick. The owners of this Menomonee Falls home were planning on having new carpeting installed and thought it would be a good time to update the 1950s red brick fireplace surround. After visiting our Waukesha fireplace showroom, where we have dozens of stone veneer fireplace surrounds on display, as well as samples from some of the top stone veneer manufacturers, they took home a couple of sample boards to narrow down their choices.

The photo on the right shows the completed work Badgerland Fireplace did. The floor to ceiling veneer is “Echo Ridge Country Ledgestone” by Boral, a color that complements the new carpeting perfectly. To keep the look light, but earthy, we used a linen-toned mortar. Tying it all together is a solid Bedford stone hearth. If you’re wondering about the unique mantel, it’s one the homeowners had custom-built.

Do you have an old brick fireplace in your house or condominium? Upgrading to a stone veneer surround is a cost-effective way to get a whole new look and add value to your home. Working with both natural stone veneer and cultured stone veneer, our Waukesha fireplace design and installation specialists can turn even the dowdiest fireplace into one you’ll love snuggling up to.

Fireplace Refacing for South Milwaukee Homeowner

Here’s a great example of how refacing an existing fireplace can give an old hearth a whole new look. We refaced this fireplace with stone veneer from Pro-Line. A light colored mortar and natural-hued hearthstones complement this veneer beautifully. For the finishing touch, we installed a dark stained maple mantel above the fireplace.

Ah, but what about that fireplace? Originally a wood burning fireplace, it’s been retrofitted with a Heat & Glo gas fireplace insert (their Supreme model, to be specific). The great thing about a gas fireplace insert is how easy it is to use. Just turn it on and you have a fire. No messing with logs, no smoke filling your living room, no ashes to clean up. And just as nice—when you’re done enjoying the fire you just turn it off!

If you have an old fireplace with a brick surround that’s seen better days, refacing may be the perfect solution for you. And if your wood burning fireplace has become more hassle than it’s worth, consider having a gas fireplace insert installed. Our Waukesha fireplace showroom has 20 or more working fireplaces on display, so it’s a great place to get an idea of what’s possible. Stop by and have a look around.

Heatilator Fireplace Installation for a Homebuilder in Oconomowoc

Here’s a great looking Heatilator installation we did for a homebuilder in Oconomowoc. This one features a 36” Heatilator Novus gas fireplace with their Kenwood mantel and Align stone surround in Charcoal. The clean lines of this fireplace enable it to harmonize with any style of furniture.

For this installation, we installed 3 slate gray tiles in front of the fireplace to complement the gorgeous dark gray stone surround. The addition of these tiles, along with the gas log set that comes standard with this fireplace, really adds to the ambiance.

Although most of our work is done directly for homeowners looking to either add a fireplace or convert an existing one, we also build fireplaces for homebuilders throughout southeast Wisconsin. We handle the entire installation, from design to final coat of paint on the mantel.

If you’re considering a fireplace for your home, a visit to our Waukesha fireplace showroom is a great place to start. You’ll find 20 working fireplaces and a variety of different mantels and surrounds, plus numerous samples of stone veneer products.

This particular fireplace is a Heat & Glo 8000 Modern Gas Fireplace, which features clean, contemporary lines and flames that rise through a bed of crushed glass. A reflective firebox amplifies the glow.

Wondering about the gorgeous floor to ceiling stone veneer surround on this fireplace? It’s a natural stone veneer from Align International Natural Stone. This is their Traditional Ledge Stone veneer in Sunset Gold. Although it looks like many individual pieces of stone, it actually comes in 6” x 24” panels for ease of installation.

Hartland Exterior Stone Veneer Installation

Here’s a great example of how even a little stone veneer can make a big improvement in the exterior of a home. Badgerland Fireplace installed this Cultured Stone veneer to the front of this home from the base of the windows to ground level, as well as around the base of the porch columns.

The Cultured Stone veneer chosen by these homeowners is Country Ledgestone in Black Rundle with gray mortar joints. The varying shades of gray in this stone veneer are a perfect complement to the gray and blue tones in this home’s exterior. Cultured Stone offers dozens of color options and stone styles, so you’re sure to find one to work well with your home’s existing color scheme. We also install stone veneer for homebuilders throughout southeast Wisconsin.

Whitefish Bay Fireplace Makeover (Before & After)

The owners of this Whitefish Bay home were looking to replace their old wood burning fireplace with an efficient and hassle-free gas insert fireplace, but when they saw the gorgeous stone veneer in our showroom they decided to go all in for a complete makeover.

After settling on a Heat & Glo Supreme I-30 gas fireplace insert with an Arcadia New Bronze front, they started to think their old fireplace surround with its dingy 1950’s era surround would look out of place. Our fireplace designers helped them sort through all the options available and, in the end, they went with Dutch Quality stone veneer in tan Weather Ledge with beautifully coordinated tan hearthstones. A new oak mantle up top completed this makeover.

The Heat ‘n Glo Supreme I-30 insert is a great choice for anyone looking to convert a wood-burning fireplace to a gas fireplace. Add a log set with glowing embers and you get the traditional ambiance of a wood-burning fireplace without the mess and hassle. And with an output of 18,000 to 32,000 BTUs, you’ll stay warm and cozy all winter.

For more great fireplace design ideas, visit our Waukesha showroom. You’ll find over 20 working fireplaces on display, hundreds of stone veneer samples, and experienced fireplace designers to help you make up your mind.

We designed and installed this gorgeous 18-foot, floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace in a Lake Country home. Our Waukesha designers helped the homeowners select Boral Echo Ridge Country Ledgestone veneer, pairing it with a coordinating hearthstone for a seamless, rustic look.

The stone surround houses a 42-inch Heatilator Novus, a top-performing and reliable gas fireplace. The mantel above it is a unique piece of craftsmanship. Our carpenter artfully burned a solid pinewood beam to create a terrific rustic look without any stain or finish. The white rectangular area is an unfinished space for mounting a flat-screen TV.

A statement fireplace like this adds value to any living room and provides a secondary heat source to help with winter energy bills. The cost of a fireplace remodel depends on materials and the scope of the project.

Stone Hearth Installation for Delafield Basement Remodel

What you’re looking at here is a fireplace hearth we designed and built around an existing fireplace. The homeowners were remodeling their basement and already had a fireplace they liked, but they wanted something special for the hearth. So, naturally, they chose Badgerland Fireplace for the job.

Although it looks like real stone, what you see here is actually man-made—a veneer called "Dressed Fieldstone" by Cultured Stone®. The color here is Chardonnay, a subtle blend of gray, tan and rose tones.  Grey mortar joints bring out the gray tones, and “Taupe” keystones above the arch in the fireplace give the hearth visual interest. The hearthstones, also from Cultured Stone, sit about 6” above the floor—a little lower than most real fireplaces, but high enough to give a first impression that this is a wood-burning fireplace. The color on these is “Marsh.”

Incidentally, one of the nice things about Cultured Stone (and some of our other brands) is how they offer hearthstones and key stones that coordinate beautifully with their stone veneers. Makes choosing colors a bit easier!

While the Heat & Glo and Heatilator gas fireplaces we carry are some of the best engineered and most energy-efficient fireplaces on the market, you don’t have to purchase a fireplace from us to get our expert stone masons to install your hearth. We can build around whatever fireplace you have, or plan to have installed. Obviously, we’re a little biased, but no one does better work than our Waukesha fireplace designers and installers.

Custom Fireplace Installation For New Construction In Sheboygan

We often get calls from both homebuilders and homeowners up in Sheboygan asking if we work that far north. Well, as a matter of fact, yes! In fact, the handsome fireplace you see above is one we completed for a homebuilder in Sheboygan County.

What you see here is a Heatilator gas fireplace with a gorgeous Cultured Stone® stone veneer in what they call Chardonnay (the color) Alpine Pro-fit (the cut of the veneer). Cultured Stone offers their Pro-fit line in either Regular or Alpine styles, the difference being the Alpine version has more dimension in the stone and a little more irregularity compared to the Pro-fit version. Think rustic ski lodge in the Swiss Alps.

The beautiful, earthy tones of the Cultured Stone Alpine Pro-fit surround are framed by a striking, mission style hearth and mantel from Fireside Furnishings. In case you want to put this particular model on your shortlist, it’s called the “Plymouth.” It’s available in unfinished oak or maple, or primed MDF (medium density fiberboard). Fireside Furnishings wisely chooses to let you make the decision on how you want your hearth to be finished. In addition to installing the fireplace and hearth, we can also stain or paint the wood however you choose.

Lastly, a word about the hearthstones you see here. Although not necessary with a gas fireplace, since you have no logs to store and no risk of sparks or embers shooting out of the fireplace onto your floor, a fireplace without a hearthstone just seems to be missing something. Even if it’s a gas fireplace. The cost of adding a few cultured stone hearthstones in front of your fireplace installation is really not that much when you consider how much it adds to the overall ambiance of the fireplace.

Not sure about it? Visit our Waukesha fireplace showroom and browse through the 20+ working fireplace installations. Some have hearthstones, some don’t. It may help you decide what look you want in your home.

Heat & Glo Mezzo Fireplace Installation in Our Waukesha Showroom

Every so often, we change out the displays in our Waukesha fireplace showroom to highlight different stone veneers and fireplace inserts. This one features a soaring surround built with ErthCoverings Ledgestone natural stone veneer in Outback Brown. A raised hearth with 19” by 20” Dutch Quality cultured stone hearthstones blends beautifully with the reddish-brown hues in the stone veneer.

If you’re wondering about the unique, modern looking fireplace, it’s a Heat & Glo Mezzo gas fireplace with an industrial chic Loft Forge front. The real attraction, though, is the way the flames spread across a bed of crushed glass. In combination with the dark glass and LED underlighting, it’s quite stunning. This Mezzo is 48” long, but it’s also available in 36”, 60” and 72” lengths. If you favor a clean, modern style, the Mezzo Series from Heat & Glo won’t disappoint.

One of the great things about a gas fireplace like this is that it can be installed in just about any home—you don’t need an existing fireplace and chimney. Besides adding ambiance and warmth to a home, a custom fireplace can increase the value of your home by as much as 12% (per the National Center for Real Estate Research). And according to a 2013 study by the National Association of Realtors, 40% of homebuyers said they would pay extra for a house with a fireplace.

But, then, with a fireplace like this one you’d have to have a pretty compelling reason to sell your house.

Brookfield Office Warms Up To Gas Fireplace In Stone Veneer Surround

Fireplaces aren’t just for homes anymore. We’re seeing more requests come in from businesses looking to create a more comfortable environment for customers and employees. For instance, the gorgeous fireplace you see here is one we designed and installed in a Brookfield accounting firm’s office.

While wood burning fireplaces make absolutely no sense in most office buildings, gas burning fireplace inserts are perfect. They’re easy to operate, economical, and provide a surprising amount of heat. Unlike wood-burning fireplaces, which require you to monitor the remnants of the fire until it is completely extinguished, you simply shut off a gas burning fireplace at the end of the day and head home.

Of course, what really makes this particular fireplace so incredible is the stone veneer surround. As you can see, our Waukesha stone masons do superb work using high-quality stone veneer products from Cultured Stone, ProStone, Eldorado Stone, Pro-Line and Dutch Quality. You can learn more about our stone veneer work here on our site, but feel free to stop by our Waukesha showroom where you can see actual fireplace surrounds built with these materials.

Outdoor Fireplace FAQs

1.  How long does installation take?

For a typical built-in masonry fireplace, installation takes 4-6 weeks total, but this depends on seasonal demand. This allows proper time for site preparation, footing construction, framing, chimney building, masonry work, curing, and finishing. Prefabricated fireplaces can often be installed in 2-3 weeks.

2. Do you offer both masonry and manufactured fireplaces?

Yes, we are fully experienced in the installation of both traditional masonry fireplaces, where we build on-site from stone or brick, as well as prefabricated modular fireplaces that are brought to the location ready for positioning and finish work.

3. What fuel/ignition options are available?

We offer the flexibility to choose between classic wood-burning fireplaces fueled by renewable firewood or convenient gas fireplaces that can be ignited instantly with the push of a button when plumbed to natural gas or propane.

4. Is ongoing maintenance required?

While masonry fireplaces are incredibly durable, we do recommend periodic inspection, cleaning out of ash, re-sealing, chimney sweeping, and minor repairs as needed to maximize the longevity and performance over decades of use.

5. Can you install fireplaces on uneven surfaces?

It is best to install an outdoor fireplace on an even, hardened, and noncombustible surface. Uneven surfaces shift over time and affect the longevity of your installation.

6. How far away from the house should an outdoor fireplace be?

At a minimum, there should be 10 to 20 feet between your home and the outdoor fireplace. The further away the better.

7. Are outdoor fireplaces built into the hardscape design or freestanding?

Outdoor fireplaces can be either built into the hardscape design, where they are seamlessly integrated into the overall outdoor space, or they can be freestanding, serving as standalone features in the outdoor area.
